Individual Therapy
By visiting this website, you are probably aware that something is bothering you. There might be personal issues you want to change (like anxiety, depression, or loneliness), that you haven’t resolved on your own. Maybe there are things you do want (such as a new career, peace, good relationships), that you haven’t yet realized in your life. If this is true, and you have the desire to change, you are ready for counseling.
In counseling I assist you in understanding what is going on now, why that is, and then help you to make changes to support your goal. The changes are in you – your thoughts, beliefs, choices and actions. We can and will talk about others in relationship to you, but the only real leverage you have is in yourself. I may challenge you on your beliefs about your own or limitations or boundaries. I know each person has the potential for a rich, fulfilling life, and we all need some help at different points in our lives.
Whether you are from a “happy” family or not, a “dysfunctional” family or not, each of us grows up with strengths, weaknesses, and coping strategies for getting through life. As we face diverse challenges and opportunities as an adult, it’s a great time to re-balance those skills.
I use a variety of approaches in individual counseling. My core philosophy is rooted in family systems theory, and I also use Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychoeducational and Solution-Focused therapies in my work.
